What is HIGHLANDER?
A global hiking event series, that originated in Croatia in 2017. Today, we organize HIGHLANDER events in some of the most iconic locations/ 20+ countries worldwide. Our goal is to make multi-day hiking accessible, simple, and fun for everyone.
How do I register?
You choose an adventure, pick a format (1-5 days) and start preparing. We’ll take care of food, water, safety, campgrounds, side acts (live music, educational workshops, yoga…), a map, a GPX route, and a proper HIGHLANDER finisher party. Check the HIGHLANDER calendar, and pick your adventure.
Why can’t I register / Why is my registration not working?
If you are having problems with your registration, we recommend trying to register from another device or Internet browser. Also, make sure to enter all the details required through the registration process. In case of additional problems with registering, feel free to reach out to us via email for further assistance.
When will the events dates be announced?
Usually the new date for the specific event is announced shortly after the event is finished, but keep following our webpage to stay in touch with all the important information.
What is included in the registration price?
A registration usually includes food packages, beverages, snacks, a buff, educational and entertainment activities, a finisher pin, HIGHLANDER certificate, a pin, a hiker & luggage tag, gpx file and HIGHLANDER passport, a map.
How does a discount work?
If you have a discount code that you can use for the registration, you need to enter it in a Coupon section when on the payment step.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
Depending on the event, you can find the cancellation & refund policy in the Terms Of Use section on the event page.
Can I transfer my registration to another event, year or format?
Yes - you can do that, but be aware of the deadlines you need to respect in order to be able to transfer you registration. You can find the transfer rules in the Terms of Use section, depending on the event you chose.
How does the team registration work?
The team registration usually works as an 3+1 free option. One person from the team registers as the Team Captain, pays the fee for 3 registrations in total and during registration creates a team name and a password, which will later be shared with the rest of team members.
The remaining team members register on the website as Team Member, using their own personal details (they don’t need to pay anything, as the Team Captain has already payed). The 4th registration is free. After that, all registrations should be completed successfully.
Is HIGHLANDER beginner friendly?
HIGHLANDER welcomes beginners, but how beginner-friendly it feels depends on the chosen format (1DAY, 2DAY, 3DAY, 5DAY). If you choose 1DAY or 2DAY format, it will suit you better than the more difficult, long and multi-day hikes. For the longer or more challenging formats like 3DAY or 5DAY, a good level of physical fitness and some previous hiking experience/preparation are highly recommended - the routes can be demanding.
How much does it take to finish the hike?
During a HIGHLANDER event, everyone hikes at their own pace and organizes their schedule individually. However, participants should keep in mind the working hours of checkpoints, as well as the schedule of programs and side activities listed in the guide they receive. While it is not about speed or competition, it is recommended to complete each stage within a reasonable timeframe to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Where can I download the GPX file and see the map?
Depending on the event and the format you chose (1DAY, 2DAY, 3DAY or 5DAY), you can find the GPX file and a map in the Routes section.
Where do participants sleep on the route?
Participants are sleeping on checkpoints that are organized throughout the route, depending on the chosen format.
Is food provided and are there different diet options?
HIGHLANDER organization usually provides food options enough for the entire adventure, which mainly includes cooked meals, backpacking food, ready-to-eat food and easy to prepare food - such as cheese, bread, spreads, cold cuts etc. There is a meat option and a vegetarian option. Besides that, if you want, you can bring your own food or snacks.
You choose your diet preference during the registration process.
Is there a minimum age to participate?
Minors are permitted to attend the event, but in that case, depending on the event and country of organization, you will need to fill out and send back to us a Consent for Minor, in order for the minor registration to be completed.
Is there a phone number I can contact?
HIGHLANDER doesn’t have an official phone number for communication, but every event / country organization has an official email address that you can contact any time - our participant service will respond as soon as possible.

When will I receive the knife, and how?
If you collect three 2024 HIGHLANDER finisher pins by the end of 2024 you will receive your HIGHLANDER TRAILFECTA Knife delivered straight to your doorstep. The knives will be sent out within the first month of 2025, ready to be your faithful companion on all your future adventures!
What is the difference between event formats?
The difference between HIGHLANDER event formats is in how many days you hike, how many nights you camp, and the total kilometres covered: HIGHLANDER 5 DAYS - Hercules (hike for 5 days, camp for 4 nights and hike approximately 100 km), HIGHLANDER 3 DAYS - Pegasus (hike for 3 days, camp for 2 nights and hike approximately 50 km), HIGHLANDER 2 DAYS - Orion (hike for 2 days, camp for a night and hike approximately 30 km), and HIGHLANDER 1 DAY - Lyra (hike approximately 20 km in one day).
Depending on the country, the number of available formats might differ.
Do I have to have mountain trekking experience and be in good shape?
You don’t need previous mountain trekking experience to join HIGHLANDER. While the trails can be challenging, with the right preparation and planning anyone can do it. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable spending time in nature, whether it’s just for one day or several nights, depending on the format you choose.
How should I prepare?
If you are not an experienced hiker, start with walks on easier terrain and build up to overnight trips and more challenging terrain. Preparation depends from event to event. All routes are different, and that is the beauty of HIGHLANDER.

What equipment do I need?
Equipment recommendations can differ from event to event because of terrain and weather conditions. But a backpack, tent, sleeping system, stove, compass, first aid kit, torch, and appropriate clothing are some of the staples.
Can I hike with friends?
Of course you can! Bring your friends along and turn the trail into your own adventure party or go solo if you’d rather enjoy some quality “me-time.” Plus, some HIGHLANDER events even offer 3+1 team registrations which is like the trail giving you a bonus hiking buddy for free.
I cannot participate this year. Can I transfer my registration to another HIGHLANDER event or next season?
Every event has its Terms of Service. Please check under INFORMATION > TERMS OF SERVICE of each HIGHLANDER event.
What is the HIGHLANDER Club?
HIGHLANDER Club is a tiered program offering special perks. Membership with special perks does not have an expiration date. The membership starts with the first purchased registration for one of the HIGHLANDER Adventure events (all formats included) after completing an application form, accepting enrolment in the HIGHLANDER Club, and accepting its Terms and Conditions.
What if it rains?
Then we get a free shower! Our events go on, rain or shine, so pack a rain jacket, embrace the adventure, and remember: muddy shoes make the best stories.
How can I download the GPX file of the route from the website?
Easy! Just go to the event you registered for on our website, click on the “Routes” tab, and hit the “Download GPX”button. Then pick the format you signed up for, and the file is yours.
Is there a HIGHLANDER Gift card?
